Why purchase this 1909-D Indian Head Gold Half Eagle coin?

In 1908, the U.S. Mint introduced the Indian Head Gold Half Eagle series, which featured two exciting U.S. coinage firsts: a rimless design and an incuse strike. The coin's innovative design is the work of Bela Lyon Pratt, an award-winning early 20th century American sculptor. At the time, the general public did not appreciate the new coin style, voicing concerns that germs and disease would collect in the design's recessed areas, a design feature which makes this piece all the more intriguing today.

  • This 1909 Indian Head Gold Half Eagle coin was struck at the Denver Mint.
  • The coin represents the second year of issue of the series.
  • The coin contains 0.2419 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold.
  • The five dollar face value coin measures 21.60 mm in diameter.
  • The beautifully crafted coin includes the prestigious NGC Green Label.
  • The coin is one of 3,423,560 minted.

Stunning Mint State 62

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) judged this 1909-D Indian Head $5 Gold Half Eagle to be in superb condition, awarding it the grade of Mint State 62. Expect the coin to possess a sharp strike, with an astounding amount of original Mint luster and magnificent eye appeal. The coin is sonically sealed in protective holder with a green certification label issued by the NGC. This label style was created as a result of a partnership between the NGC and the independent numismatic experts at the Rare Coin Company of America (RARCOA). To earn the Green Label, after the coin fulfilled a set of criteria pertaining to strike, tone, luster and eye appeal created by RARCOA, the coin was then graded by the NGC and encapsulated.
