Why purchase this Gold 1908 Indian Head $2.5 Quarter Eagle?

Collectors who like pieces that come from the first year of issue will love this 1908 $2.5 Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle. This coin was particularly notable because of its incuse design. Though some who used the coin in circulation found this frustration, the novelty has made the series particularly attractive among collectors. Struck in Philadelphia from .900 fine gold, this coin weighs 4.18 g. It was part of an issue of 564,821 pieces.

Iconic Incuse Design by Bela Lyon Pratt

Bela Lyon Pratt designed both faces of this coin. On the obverse is a left-facing Indian chief, who wears a large, feathered headdress. He bears a serious look on his face. The date, "1908," is inscribed at the bottom, while "LIBERTY" is inscribed at the top. Thirteen stars are spread through the rest of the rim.

An eagle stands at rest on a group of arrows on the reverse. An olive branch wraps around the arrows. Inscriptions on this face include the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the face value, "2 1/2 DOLLARS."

Well Preserved MS61

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation certified that this coin is in Mint State 61 (MS61) condition. That means that it has a weak to average strike and lacks any trace of wear. It does, however, have marks and/or abrasions.

Don't miss your chance to own this $2.5 1908 Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle.
