Why add this 1907 Gold Liberty Head Quarter Eagle $2.5 coin to your collection?

The year was 1907. It was notably the very first year the ball dropped in Times Square on New Year's Eve as well as the year famous celebrities such as John Wayne, Katherine Hepburn, Barbara Stanwyck, and Cesar Romero were born! It was also the final year that the Liberty design would be used on $2.5 gold coins as the United States Mint began producing the Indian Head design for that denomination the next year.

This 1907 dated coin hails from the final year of issue of the Liberty Head Gold Quarter Eagle series. Introduced in 1840, and produced annually through 1907, the Liberty Head design by engraver Christian Gobrecht is the longest running variety of the Quarter Eagle in the history of the United States Mint. This 18 mm diameter Mint State example was struck at the Philadelphia Mint (no Mint mark) from 0.1209 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold. Final mintage is reported to be 336,294 coins.

Gorgeous Lady Liberty Design

The obverse features the left facing profile image of Lady Liberty, her bound curling hair entwined with a strand of pearls and tamed with a "LIBERTY" inscribed coronet. The portrait is surrounded by thirteen six-pointed stars, with "1907" inscribed below.

The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle behind a striped shield, with an olive branch and three arrows gripped in its talons, encircled by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "2 1/2 D."

Impressive Mint State 63

This 1907 Liberty Head $2.5 Gold Quarter Eagle coin received the grade of Mint State 63 from Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). Encased in a PCGS holder with certification label, the coin is of overall average quality with a significant amount of original Mint luster and excellent eye appeal.
