Why make this 1907 Gold Liberty Head Quarter Eagle $2.50 coin the next addition to your collection?
The U.S. Mint's Liberty Head Gold Quarter Eagle series was issued for nearly seventy years, from 1840 until 1907. The series represents the longest running $2.50 denomination circulating gold coin in U.S. history. Design of the series is credited to Christian Gobrecht, that artist who served as the Mint's third Chief Engraver, from 1840 until 1844.
Elegant Portrayal of Lady Liberty
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted as a young woman facing left on the obverse, with her wavy tresses bound in a fashionable knot by a length of pearls and tamed with a "LIBERTY" inscribed coronet. The portrait is framed by thirteen six-pointed stars, with "1907" inscribed below.
Reverse: The reverse features a beautifully rendered heraldic eagle with an olive branch and three arrows gripped in its talons. The national bird is encircled by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "2 1/2 D."
