Why order this 1 oz. Gold 1906 (2010) United States Barber Pattern Double Eagle Smithsonian Collection Proof Medal?

For collectors who appreciate the work of the giants of American numismatic history, this United States 1906 (2010) 1 oz. Gold Barber Pattern Double Eagle Smithsonian Collection Proof Medal is a great choice. This medal features the designs of Charles Barber. It was struck from .999 fine gold at the New York Mint and is one of only 5,000 pieces of its kind.

Stunning Liberty Design by Charles Barber

The obverse design was created by Charles Barber for the American double eagle in 1906. It lost out to the iconic Saint-Gaudens and sat unknown to all but a few in the U.S. Mint for decades. This medal, however, revived the design. It features Liberty facing to the left side of the coin. She wears a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, "LIBERTY," and a Phrygian cap. Along the rim are thirteen stars, which represent the original states and the date of the design, "1906."

On the reverse is another design by Barber. Liberty stands at the center with her head turned to the left. She holds a sword and extends her cap above her head. Behind her is a large eagle, which looks upward. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed in a pattern that arches over her image.
