Why add the 1904-O Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS MS65 to your collection?

Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) determined this remarkable 1904-O Morgan Silver Dollar is in the sought after Mint State 65 (MS65) grade. This is the last Morgan Dollar issue struck at the New Orleans branch of the U.S. Mint. It has a mintage of 3,720,000 coins. The series was struck on 90% pure silver planchets containing .7734 oz. of bullion. This issue was scarce prior to the GSA sales of the 1960s.

Morgan's Iconic Silver Dollar

The obverse image is the left-facing profile of Lady Liberty, as modeled by a young school teacher, Anna Williams. She is drawn wearing a small crown inscribed with "Liberty" on it. The reverse image gives us the Bald Eagle, as required by U.S. law, encircled by a laurel wreath. "In God We Trust" is written in Gothic lettering and appears over the eagle as he holds arrows and an olive branch. This design was U.S. Mint engraver George T. Morgan's first assignment.

New Orleans MS65 specimen

MS65 coins are high quality and have few marks or distractions. They have full details and excellent mint luster. Strike quality is excellent in the MS65 grade. The U.S. Mint in New Orleans was well-known for having made poorly struck coinage across all denominations. A well-struck MS65 New Orleans coin in any denomination is of significant interest to experienced collectors.
