Why add this Morgan 1904-O Silver Dollar to your collection?
This 1904-O Morgan Silver Dollar is particularly attractive to collectors because it comes from the final year of the initial run of the series. After this mintage, the coin was not struck again until 1921, when it was issued for just one year. While every Morgan is historic, this makes this issue stand out as one that should be a part of every Morgan collection.
- This coin is part of a mintage of 3,720,000 pieces.
- This coin bears the "O" mint mark of the New Orleans Mint.
- The coin was $1 U.S. legal tender.
- This coin was struck from 26.73 g of .900 fine silver.
- Designer George T. Morgan's obverse design broke with the tradition of depicting Liberty as a Greek-style figure and instead showed her as an American-style figure.
- Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this piece Mint State 64.
- This coin was awarded NGC's Green Label.
Ground Breaking Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: Like the reverse, the obverse was designed by George T. Morgan. Liberty faces left wearing a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, as well as a Phrygian cap and a crown made from two American crops, cotton, which is Southern, and wheat, which is Northern. Along the rim are thirteen stars that join two inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1904."
Reverse: Partially encircled by an open wreath, an eagle holds arrows and an olive branch on the reverse. The bird spreads its wings in a V-shape, within which is an inscription of the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Along the rim are inscriptions that note the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the face value of the coin, "ONE DOLLAR."
Beautifully Maintained MS64 with Green Label
