Powerful Representations of Liberty and Freedom

Obverse: An allegorical image of Liberty personified as a young woman is centered on the obverse. Thirteen stars surround the portrait, with "LIBERTY" inscribed upon her headband and the year of issue "1904" below.

Reverse: An eagle appears on the reverse clutching a trio of arrows and an olive branch, with a Union Shield at its breast. The heraldic design is encircled by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE D," with "IN GOD WE TRUST" inscribed on a banner above. The lack of a Mint mark confirms the coin's Philadelphia Mint origin.
