For nearly seven decades, from 1839 until 1908, the Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle coin was annually issued by the U.S. Mint. Design of the coin is credited to third U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Christian Gobrecht. Throughout the lifetime of the series, the coin was struck in seven different minting facilities. This 1904 dated example is a product of the Philadelphia Mint. Measuring 21.6 mm in diameter, the coin contains 0.2419 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold. Final mintage is reported to be 392,000 coins.

Stunning Patriotic Designs

Lady Liberty is portrayed in a left facing pose on the obverse, her hair elegantly styled and entwined with pearls. The image is encircled by thirteen stars, with "1904" inscribed below and "LIBERTY" upon her crown.

A heraldic eagle is featured on the reverse clutching three arrows and an olive branch. The beautifully detailed design is encircled by the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE D," with a banner above the eagle adorned with the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST."

This 1904 Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle $5 coin has been authenticated and judged to be in Mint State 61 condition by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).
