Why Purchase This MS63 1904 Liberty Head Gold Quarter Eagle?
For much of our nation's history, gold coins were struck by the U.S. Mint for circulation. One of them was known as the Quarter Eagle, which is the coin offered on this page. This Quarter Eagle was struck in 1904 at the Philadelphia Mint and had a denomination of $2.5. Like other pre-1933 U.S. gold coins, this one is 90% gold.
1904 was an important year and marked such notable births as Dr. Seuss, Salvador Dali, and Cary Grant. It was also the year that Theodore Roosevelt would would win his first Presidential election at the age of 46. This made him the youngest President ever elected until John Kennedy won in 1960!
This 1904 Liberty Head had a mintage of just 160,790 pieces. Of this mintage, according to PCGS's population report as of 3/5/2020, only 1,223 have ever been graded. That is just .80% of the entire mintage, and now an example certified to be in Mint State 63 condition can be yours!
Gobrecht's Classic Liberty Design
The design found on this specimen was in use on the Quarter Eagle for quite some time. This classic Liberty Head design was the work of Christian Gobrecht. Liberty is facing the left while the date and 13 stars form a circle around her.
If you're looking for the face value, it's located on the reverse. It's inscribed near the bottom edge of the design. The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" wrap around the heraldic bald eagle at the center of the design.
This specimen was graded and encapsulated by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). The unbiased experts there examined it thoroughly and found it to be in uncirculated condition. It was assigned the grade of Mint State 63.
