Striking Indian Head Design by James Longacre
Both faces of this coin bear designs by James Longacre. Obverse: On the obverse is a left-side portrait of Liberty. She wears a feathered headdress that bears an inscription of her name on the band. Rim inscriptions provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the date, "1904."
Reverse: The proof's face value, "ONE CENT," is inscribed in large font at the center of the reverse. It is encircled by an open wreath, the gap of which is filled by a union shield.
