Iconic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: The coin's obverse bears George T. Morgan's novel Liberty design. Morgan used an American-style model, Anna Willess Williams, for the figure rather than a Greek-style model, as previous designers had used. The central figure dons a Phrygian cap, and her effigy is encircled by thirteen stars and two inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1902."
Reverse: On the reverse, an eagle is partially encircled by an open wreath. The bird spreads its wings, and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above its head. Rim inscriptions provide the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR." George T. Morgan was the seventh Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. This silver dollar is his best-known work.
