Why add this Silver 1902-O Toned Morgan Dollar to your collection?
This 1902-O Morgan comes from one of the last issues of the iconic coin. Struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver, it bears the "O" mint mark of the New Orleans Mint. It was part of a mintage of 8,636,000 pieces. When you place your order, you will receive the exact coin shown above, which has some attractive toning.
Exquisite Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
The obverse features George T. Morgan's iconic portrait of Liberty, for whom he used an American style model, Anna Willess Williams. This marked a departure from the long standing tradition of using a Greek style model for the figure. The left-side effigy shows her wearing a Phrygian cap, which denotes that someone is a freed slave, and a crown of cotton and wheat. These crops represent national unity, as the former is a Southern crop and the latter is a Northern one. The image is encircled by two rim inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one) and "1902," and thirteen stars.
An eagle spreads its wings while holding arrows and an olive branch on the reverse, which was also designed by Morgan. The olive branch represents a preference for peace, while the arrows serve as reminders that America is willing to fight for her values. An open wreath arches under the bird just inside the rim inscriptions. Those inscriptions read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR."
Beautifully Preserved MS63
This coin earned a choice uncirculated grade of Mint State 63 from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). MS63 coins feature a good strike, full mint luster, and no signs of wear. This piece also displays attractive toning.
