Why purchase this Philadelphia Mint 1902 Morgan Silver Dollar?
The U.S. Mint's Morgan Silver Dollar was produced in five different facilities during its twenty-eight years of minting from 1878-1921, resulting in a staggering series total of ninety-six unique date and Mint mark combinations. Imagery of the coin is the most well-known design of George T. Morgan, who served as the Mint's seventh Chief Engraver from 1917 until 1925.
Gorgeous Patriotic Image of Lady Liberty
Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed as a young woman on the obverse, wearing a Phrygian cap with a "LIBERTY" inscribed headband. The cap is further ornamented with sprigs of wheat, cotton and oak, symbolizing the importance of agriculture to the growing nation. Thirteen six-pointed stars, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the date of issue "1902" surround the portrait.
Reverse: The reverse depicts an eagle clutching an olive branch and three arrows, with a wreath of laurel curving below. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "ONE DOLLAR." The lack of a Mint mark serves as confirmation of the coin's Philadelphia Mint origin.
