Why does this San Francisco Mint 1901-S $5 Gold Liberty Head Half Eagle coin belong in your collection?

The Liberty Head Gold $5 Half Eagle series was annually issued by the U.S. Mint beginning in 1839 and concluding in 1908. Design of the coin is credited to artist Christian Gobrecht, the Mint's third Chief Engraver from 1840 until 1844. The coin's patriotic imagery was shared with the $10 Eagle and the $2.50 Quarter Eagle gold coin series of the same era.

  • The coin is crafted from 0.2419 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold.
  • The five dollar face value coin measures 21.60 mm in diameter.
  • The graded coin is accompanied by the NGC's elite Green Label.
  • Mint records declare the final mintage to be 3,648,000 coins.
