Symbolic Representation of Liberty and Freedom
Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse wearing a Phrygian cap, which symbolizes freedom and the pursuit of liberty, with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed upon the headband. The portrait is encircled by thirteen stars signifying the original Colonies, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the date of issue "1901."
"UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed on the reverse, wrapping around the image of eagle holding an olive branch and three arrows. "IN GOD WE TRUST" is inscribed above, with a wreath and the New Orleans Mint mark "O" below. Morgan's initial "M" appears on the wreath's ribbon.
