Obverse: Both faces bear designs that were created by George T. Morgan. On the obverse is a left-side profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap and a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, as well as a crown that represents unity, as it is made from one Southern crop, cotton, and one Northern one, wheat. The image is encircled by thirteen stars and two inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1901."
Reverse: A bald eagle spreads its wings while holding arrows and an olive branch on the reverse. The bird is partially encircled by an open wreath, and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above its head. Along the rim are inscriptions of the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the face value of the coin, "ONE DOLLAR."
