Why order this 1900-S Silver Morgan Dollar?
The Morgan Silver Dollar is beloved among Americans today, including among many who don't otherwise collect coins. Part of the allure is the fact that Morgan chose an American-style model for Liberty, thus breaking with the tradition of showing her as a Greek-style figure. Morgan also adopted unifying themes for a country that was still healing. This piece from 1900 is perfect for collectors looking to start or grow a collection of this iconic series.
Unifying Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: Like the reverse, the obverse was designed by George T. Morgan, for whom the coin is named. The obverse features a left-side portrait of Liberty wearing a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, a Phrygian cap, and a crown made from one Southern crop, cotton, and one Northern one, wheat. Her portrait is encircled by thirteen stars and two rim inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1900."
Reverse: An eagle spreads its wings while clutching arrows and an olive branch within an open wreath on the reverse. Above the bird's head is an inscription of the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed along the rim.
The experts at Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) graded this coin Mint State 62. That grade means that the coin shows no traces of wear and has about an average strike.
