Mint State 65 from New Orleans!
Mint State 65 (MS65) circulation strike coins on the Sheldon Scale are quite remarkable. Hallmarks of the grade include stunning Mint luster, excellent eye appeal and the fact that distractions tend to be small and away from focal areas. Interestingly, MS65 graded coins are well-known to have been well-struck. The New Orleans branch of the Mint is notorious for producing coins with a mediocre strike, likely because the priority was to set the presses to prolong die life rather than to produce exemplary coins. Well-struck New Orleans coins are sought by collectors in the know!
