Striking Liberty Design by James B. Longacre

Obverse: Both faces of this coin bear the designs of James B. Longacre. On the obverse is a left-facing portrait of Liberty. She wears a coronet that bears an inscription of her name. The date, "1903," is inscribed below her portrait, and thirteen stars represent the original states along the rim.

Reverse: On the reverse, an eagle protects a union shield. Above is the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," which is encircled by thirteen stars. Rim inscriptions read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and "TWENTY DOLLARS." James B. Longacre was the fourth Chief Engraver of the US Mint, a position that he held for a quarter of a century.
