The portrait was modeled after American teacher and philosophical writer Anna Wiles Williams. Depicted on the reverse is an American bald eagle. Encircling the design are inscriptions which read; "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DOLLAR" and the American motto "IN GOD WE TRUST."
