The Morgan Silver Dollar Series is the most beloved historic American coin among collectors and non-collectors alike. The coins were first issued not long after the end of the Civil War, and their powerful imagery provided a small but important contribution to creating a unified national identity. This piece was struck at the New Orleans Mint in the final year of the 1800's.
Powerful Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: George T. Morgan's American-style Liberty design graces the obverse. The allegorical figure dons a Phrygian cap, a ribbon with an inscription of her name, and a crown of cotton, a Southern crop, and wheat, a Northern one. encircling the image are thirteen stars and two inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1899."
Reverse: A heraldic eagle dominates the reverse. The bird holds arrows and an olive branch within an open wreath. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above its head, while the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the face value of the coin, "ONE DOLLAR," are inscribed along the rim.
Well Preserved MS65 with Green Label
Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded the piece Mint State 65. In doing, so they indicated that it was struck well and shows no traces of wear. The Green Label means that before this coin was reviewed and graded by NGC, it was first identified by Rare Coin Company of America (RARCOA), for having attributes such as appealing toning, stunning eye appeal, booming luster, or solid strike.This additional review means that only coins of exceptional quality will be able to wear the Green Label.
