Patriotic Eagle Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: Designer George T. Morgan designed the obverse, where Liberty is depicted in left-side profile. On her head are a Phrygian cap, a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, and a crown made from one Southern crop, cotton, and one Northern one, wheat. Her image is encircled by two rim inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1899."
Reverse: Two rim inscriptions, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR," encircle Morgan's reverse design. That design consists of an eagle holding arrows and an olive branch and an open wreath that partially encircles the bird. Also inscribed on this face is the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."
