The series was minted continuously until 1908, when the Gold Half Eagle coin was redesigned as part of President Theodore Roosevelt's grand scheme to invigorate the nation's coinage with bold imagery that reflected the country's growth and diversity.

Gorgeous Representations of Liberty and Freedom

Obverse: Liberty is personified on the obverse as a young woman posed facing left, with her hair gathered in an elegant knot by a beaded ribbon. Thirteen stars frame the portrait, with "LIBERTY" inscribed upon her coronet and the year of issue "1899" below.

Reverse: An eagle appears on the reverse with a Union Shield at its breast, grasping a trio of arrows and an olive branch, with "IN GOD WE TRUST" inscribed on a banner above. The heraldic design is encircled by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE D."

This 1899 Liberty Head $5 Gold Half Eagle coin was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) for review and determined to be in Mint State 63 condition for its sharp strike, high degree of original Mint luster and outstanding eye appeal. The coin is sonically sealed in a protective holder with the NGC's distinctive Green Label, which is representative of a collaboration between the NGC and the Rare Coin Company of America (RARCOA). Coins bestowed with the Green Label either meet or surpass a set of stringent guidelines pertaining to strike, tone, luster and eye appeal created by a team of numismatic industry experts at RARCOA, prior to receiving a grade from the NGC.
