Why add this specially labeled Mint State 1899 Liberty Head $20 Gold Double Eagle coin to your collection?

In U.S. Mint history, there have been only two series of $20 Gold Double Eagle coins, the first of which was the Liberty Head. Introduction of the Liberty Head Double Eagle in 1850 was a direct result of the California Gold Rush which began several years earlier. Imagery of the coin was one of the earliest works of James B. Longacre after his appointment as the Mint's Fourth Chief Engraver in 1844. The Liberty Head Double Eagle series was annually issued for more than fifty years, concluding in 1907.

  • This 1899 Liberty Head Double Eagle coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint.
  • The 34 mm diameter coin is crafted from 0.9675 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold.
  • The superbly graded coin includes the Green Style label from the NGC.
  • Final mintage is reported to be 1,669,300 pieces.

Stunning Personification of Liberty

Obverse: The obverse features a Greco-Roman inspired, left facing profile image of Lady Liberty, her hair elegantly styled beneath a beaded headband inscribed with "LIBERTY." Thirteen stars surround the portrait, with "1899" inscribed below.

Reverse: A magnificent eagle is depicted on the reverse, in a traditional heraldic pose behind a striped shield, grasping a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, beneath an oval composed of thirteen stars. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "TWENTY DOLLARS" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

Sensational Mint State 64
