Why add this specially labeled Mint State 1899 Liberty Head $20 Gold Double Eagle coin to your collection?
In U.S. Mint history, there have been only two series of $20 Gold Double Eagle coins, the first of which was the Liberty Head. Introduction of the Liberty Head Double Eagle in 1850 was a direct result of the California Gold Rush which began several years earlier. Imagery of the coin was one of the earliest works of James B. Longacre after his appointment as the Mint's Fourth Chief Engraver in 1844. The Liberty Head Double Eagle series was annually issued for more than fifty years, concluding in 1907.
