Why order this 1898 Silver Morgan Dollar?
This 1898 Morgan is perfect for collectors looking for a coin from the turn of the century. The series features powerful symbols of a unified nation, including an American style Liberty and a crown made from a Southern crop, cotton, and a Northern one, wheat. These novel features are part of the reason that this series continues to be a favorite among collectors and non-collectors alike.
Featuring George T. Morgan's Patriotic Liberty Design
This coin takes its name from the man who designed both of its faces, George T. Morgan. Obverse: On the obverse is a left-side portrait of Liberty. A Phrygian cap, a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, and a crown of cotton and wheat sit upon her head. Her portrait is encircled by thirteen stars and two inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1898."
Reverse: An eagle spreads its wings while holding arrows and an olive branch within an open wreath on the reverse. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed between its wings. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" are inscribed along the rim.
