Why add the 1898 Morgan Silver Dollar NGC MS63 to your collection?
This 1898 Morgan Silver Dollar was examined by a team of experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). It achieved the coveted grade of Mint State 63 (MS63). The coin was struck at the Philadelphia Branch of the U.S. Mint on a 90% pure silver planchet containing .7734 oz. of silver bullion. There are only 8,546 examples in the sought after MS63 grade in the NGC censusas of July 2020. The Morgan Silver Dollar series is the most widely collected silver dollar in American Numismatics. It was struck annually from 1878 until 1904 and then once more in 1921.
An American Numismatic Design Classic
The obverse of this remarkable series features the American Ideal, the Goddess Liberty in left-facing profile. She wears a small crown with the inscription "Liberty" and has agricultural motifs woven in her hair. The reverse of the coin features a Heraldic Bald Eagle. The eagle holds arrows and an olive branch signifying our desire for Peace and willingness to defend it. A majestic laurel wreath encircles the eagle. Engraver George T. Morgan executed this design as his first assignment for the U.S. Mint.
What is the MS63 grade?
Mint State 63 graded coins are uncirculated examples that have relatively few distractions or marks. They have lustrous and original surfaces. All design details are present and each coin in this grade exhibits solid eye appeal.
