Why Make This AU 1897-O Morgan Dollar the Next Addition to Your Collection?

The U.S. Mint struck the very first Morgan silver dollars in 1878. Annual production continued through 1904 and these coins were widely used during their time in circulation. The New Orleans Mint struck the Morgan dollar shown here in 1897. Mintage of this coin was a bit low, there were only 4,004,000 of these struck.

Inspiring Liberty and Bald Eagle Designs by Morgan

George T. Morgan created the designs for the obverse and reverse of this silver dollar, which is how the name Morgan dollar came to be. The obverse shows his portrait of Liberty. The date is displayed here as well.

The reverse is where the face value can be found. If you're looking for the "O" mintmark, check just above the face value. This design features a detailed bald eagle.

This coin was submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. After their team of experts examined it, they awarded it the grade of About Uncirculated. Some slight wear can be seen on this specimen, but really only on the highest points of the design.
