Why buy this Silver 1895 Barber Dime?

This Barber 1895 Silver Dime is a true prize for the discerning collector. Coming from a classic series, the coin is part of the lowest mintage of dimes at the Philadelphia Mint since 1881. This is due to the depression that was plaguing the nation at the time. With just 690,000 pieces minted, the coin is rare in all grades. Like other Barber Dimes, this piece was struck from 2.5 g of .900 fine silver.

Powerful Liberty Design by Charles Barber

Both faces of this coin bear the designs of Charles Barber. He modeled his obverse design off of the Liberty design that appeared on the Morgan Silver Dollar. Barber adapted that design by cropping the figure's hair and putting a Liberty cap, a traditional symbol of freedom from slavery, on her head. Rim inscriptions offer the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and date, "1895."

The face value, "ONE DIME," is inscribed in large lettering at the center of the reverse. It is encircled by a wreath that is very similar to the one that appeared on this series's predecessor, the Seated Liberty Dime.

Clear F15

This coin's letters and digits remain sharp. That is why it earned a Fine 15 grade from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).
