Historic Liberty Design by Christian Gobrecht

Obverse: The coin's obverse bears a left-side portrait of Liberty that was designed by Christian Gobrecht. The woman wears her hair held back in a bun and a coronet that bears an inscription of her name, "LIBERTY." The bust is encircled by thirteen stars and an inscription of the date, "1895."

Reverse: On the reverse, an eagle holds arrows and an olive branch while protecting a union shield. Above its head is a ribbon that bears an inscription of the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and an abbreviation of the coin's face value, "FIVE D.," are inscribed along the rim.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) awarded this piece a grade of Mint State 63. That means that the coin has an average or better strike and lacks any traces of wear. This grade comes provided on NGC's prestigious Green Label which was the result of a collaboration between NGC and one of the leading numismatic distributors in the United States, Rare Coin Company of America (RARCOA). Experts at RARCOA must first identify the coin for meeting or exceeding a set of strict guidelines pertaining to strike, luster, toning, and eye-appeal, before then being submitted to NGC for further review and encapsulation.
