Why add this 1894 Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle coin to your collection of precious metals?
The U.S. Mint issued the Gold Liberty Head Half Eagle series from 1839-1908, featuring a neoclassical inspired design created by Christian Gobrecht, the third U.S. Mint Chief Engraver. Imagery of the series was shared with the $10 Eagle and the $2.50 Quarter Eagle coins, which were issued during the same period of nearly seven decades. The most significant modification to the coin's design occurred in 1866, when the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" was added to the reverse after the American Civil War.
Astoundingly Detailed Designs
Obverse: Lady Liberty is portrayed as a young woman in a left facing pose on the obverse. Liberty's hair is classically styled, adorned with a strand of pearls and headband carrying the inscription "LIBERTY." The portrait is surrounded by thirteen six-pointed stars, with "1894" inscribed below.
Reverse: The reverse features a heraldic eagle clutching an olive branch and three arrows, with a fluttering banner above the eagle bearing the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST." Additional inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE D."
