Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a left facing portrait of Lady Liberty. Her hair is gathered in a bun with a ringlet dangling at her neck. She wears a small crown inscribed with the word "Liberty." Her image is surrounded by 13 stars. The date of issue appears below the portrait.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin features the Roman Numeral "V" (the number 5) as the central detail. The V is surrounded by a wreath and the inscriptions "Cents" "United States of America" and "E Pluribus Unum."
