Why does this 1893 Liberty Head Gold Half Eagle $5 coin belong in your collection?
The Gold Liberty Head Half Eagle series was an annual release of the U.S. Mint for nearly seventy years, issued from 1839 until 1908. The series is notably the longest running five dollar denomination gold coin in the history of the U.S. Mint. The coin's classically styled imagery, which was created by the Mint's third Chief Engraver Christian, also appeared on the $10 Eagle and the $2.50 Quarter Eagle gold coins issued during the same time period. Mr. Gobrecht is additionally credited with the "Seated Liberty" graphic, which was minted on silver coinage of the U.S. from 1836-1891.
Spectacular Patriotic Imagery Honoring Liberty and Freedom

A banner ripples above the eagle emblazoned with the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST." The image is encircled by the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination as "FIVE D."
