Why add the 1892-S Liberty Head $20 Gold Double Eagle PCGS MS62 to your collection?

This 1892-S Liberty Head $20 Gold Double Eagle achieved the Mint State 62 grade from third party grading firm Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). It was struck at the second San Francisco mint building known as the legendary "Granite Lady"--the mint was established to strike gold coinage from the California Gold Rush. This coin was struck on a .900 fine gold planchet with .9675 oz. of gold bullion. The year makes this coin particularly attractive, as its not one of the ordinary dates you encounter when you purchase $20 Liberty gold coins. The issue has a mintage of 930,150 coins.

Classic 19th Century Liberty Design

James B. Longacre was the Fourth Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint from 1844 until his death in 1869. He served as designer of both the obverse and reverse of this iconic American coin series. The obverse of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty wearing a small crown. The coin has 13 stars around the rim. The reverse of the coin features the majestic image of a bald eagle with wings spread.

Solid Mint State 62 Example

This Mint State 62 example has seen it all--from the inside of a canvas bag in a bank vault. Examples like this coin will have bag or contact marks but retain all of the design details. It will likely have some remaining mint luster and average eye appeal. There are 1,729 examples in the Mint State 62 grade according to PCGS population reports as of February 1st 2019
