Why order this Silver 1892-O Morgan Dollar?
This 1892-O Silver Morgan Dollar is in very good condition for a coin of its type, which makes it an attractive choice for collectors. It was part of a mintage of 2,744,000 pieces, a large portion of which was either released into circulation or melted. That use of the coin makes this issue very difficult to find in GEM or better condition. It bears the "O" Mint mark of the New Orleans Mint, where it was struck from .900 fine silver.
Classic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
The obverse of this coin bears George T. Morgan's pioneering Liberty design. The design, which debuted with this series, marked the first time that Liberty was portrayed as an American figure rather than a Greek one. Morgan modeled Liberty on Anna Willess Williams and shows her wearing a Phrygian cap that covers much of her long, curly hair. She also dons a crown made from cotton and wheat and a ribbon that bears the name "LIBERTY."
On the reverse, an eagle holds arrows, which symbolize military preparedness, and an olive branch, which symbolizes a preference for peace. Above its head are the words "IN GOD WE TRUST," which is the national motto.
Well Preserved MS63
This coin has a slightly weak to average strike and moderate abrasions or hairlines. Accordingly, it received a grade of Mint State (MS) 63 from the experts at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
