Why add the 1892-CC Morgan Silver Dollar Mint State 61+ to your collection?

This stunning 1892-CC Morgan Silver Dollar was graded at the elevated Mint State 61+ level by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). This example was minted at the storied United States branch Mint at Carson City! This renowned mint location was closest to the famous Comstock Lode silver mine. The owners of the mine colluded with their legislators to require the U.S. Government to purchase vast amounts of silver every month. The silver was minted primarily into dollar coins because they are large-- .7734 oz. actual silver weight per coin. This series was struck on 90% silver planchets. This issue features a mintage of 1,352,000 coins. Interestingly, only a single example was sold in the GSA auctions of the sixties and seventies.

Classic Morgan Silver Dollar Design

George T. Morgan designed this widely collected and famous series as one of the first things he did as an assistant engraver at the U.S. Mint. Anna Williams was the model for the obverse image of Liberty on this coin. The reverse image is a powerful heraldic bald eagle with his wings spread.

Mint State 61+ PLUS!

Mint State 61 (MS61) is a sought-after uncirculated grade. It will have some contact marks, perhaps heavy at times. The Plus signifies that this example has superior eye appeal to other MS61 examples and has characteristics that approach MS62.
