Why Order This MS63 VAM-3 1891-S Morgan Dollar from the Great Montana Collection?

The U.S. Mint struck the very first Morgan silver dollars in 1878 and today these coins are quite popular with collectors. The Morgan dollar shown here was struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1891. The specific coin offered here displays the VAM-3 variety. There were a total of 5,296,000 1891-S Morgan dollars struck and only a portion of them were the VAM-3 variety. This specimen came from the Great Montana Collection, which was discovered in 1998.

American Designs on Obverse and Reverse by Morgan

The obverse displays George T. Morgan's well-known Liberty design. This is where some of the VAM-3 differences can be seen. This variety displays a bit of doubling on the stars to the left of the date.

The reverse displays a powerful bald eagle design by Morgan. The eagle is partially surrounded by a wreath as it holds its wings high. Just below the wreath the "S" Mint mark can be seen.

This silver dollar was certified by the experts at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. Its status as a VAM-3 variety specimen has been recognized. It was awarded the grade of Mint State 63 for its uncirculated condition.
