The obverse features the image of Lady Liberty with sprigs of wheat and oak leaves woven into her hair, wearing an elegant crown inscribed with the word "LIBERTY." She is surrounded by thirteen stars, "1890" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
"UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" encircle the reverse image of a heraldic eagle grasping three arrows and an olive branch with a wreath below. Additional inscriptions include "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the New Orleans Mint mark "O."
