This highly collected and popular series was issued from 1878 until 1904 and then returned one last time in 1921 before the issuance of the Peace Dollar. The series was struck on 90% silver planchets with .7734 oz. actual silver weight each. The issue on offer here was struck at the Grey Lady, the famed San Francisco branch of the U.S. Mint. The mintage was 700,000 coins, many of which were circulated and then melted after World War I. Classic George Morgan Silver DollarThe obverse image used on the coin is the left-facing portrait of the Goddess Liberty, personified by model Anna Williams, a Philadelphia school teacher. She is shown wearing a coronet inscribed with the word "Liberty." The reverse of the coin features the spread Heraldic Eagle. The bald eagle appears beneath the motto "In God We Trust" and surrounded by a laurel wreath. This was George Morgan's first assignment for the Mint. Coveted Mint State 63MS63 coins have excellent Mint luster. Examples in the grade may have several small contact marks with some scattered, heavy marks.
