Why add this Mint State 65 1889-O Morgan Dollar to your collection?
When Morgan silver dollars were in production they were struck at several branches of the U.S. Mint. The coin shown here was struck at the New Orleans Mint in 1889. There were 11,875,000 of these minted. However, this Morgan dollar can be challenging to find in high grades.
Classic Liberty obverse and bald eagle reverse
Both sides of this coin were designed by George T. Morgan, which is why it came to be known as the Morgan silver dollar. The obverse features Morgan's detailed portrait of Liberty.
On the reverse a bald eagle can be seen. It has its wings partially spread so that the tips are higher than its head. The "O" Mint mark is below the wreath.
Graded Mint State 65 by NGC
This Morgan dollar was sent to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) for grading. From their grading scale with a maximum of 70 it was given the grade of Mint State 65. While some flaws are visible, they are few in number and minor in appearance. This is an excellent grade for an 1889-O Morgan dollar.
