Why add this Silver Morgan 1889 Toned Dollar to your collection?

With the highest mintage in the entire Morgan run, the 1889 Silver Dollar is a must have for any serious collector of American coins. This piece is one of over 21.7 million struck at the Philadelphia Mint from .7734 troy oz of .900 fine silver that year. Even with the high population, this coin has attractive toning that makes it totally unique. When you order, you will receive the exact coin shown above.

American Liberty Design by George T. Morgan

Designer George T. Morgan broke with a long tradition of depicting Liberty in a Greek style with his selection of an American style model, Anna Willess Williams, for his obverse design. His left-side portrait of her shows her with long, curly hair that is partially covered by a Phrygian cap, which denotes a freed slave. She also wears a crown of cotton and wheat, one Southern crop and one Northern one, in a show of national unity. The date, "1889," is inscribed at the bottom, and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is inscribed along the rim at the top. They are joined by thirteen stars, one for each of the original states.

The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed above an eagle's head on the reverse. That eagle holds arrows and an olive branch and is partially encircled by an open wreath. The arrows serve as a reminder to all that America will defend her values, while the olive branch indicates a preference for peace. Rim inscriptions read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR."

Well Maintained MS63

This coin is in relatively good condition for an 1889 Morgan, as examples from this issue in high mint state are very difficult to find. Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) awarded this toned piece a grade of Mint State 63, which indicates that it shows no signs of wear and is in choice uncirculated condition.
