Why add this Toned 1889 Silver Morgan Dollar to your collection?

Because the 1889 Morgan is difficult to find in high mint state, this MS63 piece is a great choice for collectors looking for an attractive piece that doesn't break the bank. This issue must be in any Morgan collection because it had the highest mintage in the entire series at over 21.7 million pieces. Struck from .7734 troy oz. of .900 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin has some attractive toning. You will receive the exact coin shown on this page.

American Liberty Design by George T. Morgan

The coin's designer, George Morgan, made history when he chose Anna Willess Williams as his model for Liberty. She was an American-style figure, so she offered a revolutionary look compared to the Greek-style models who went before her. On her head are a Phrygian cap and a crown. The cap symbolizes freedom, while the crown indicates unity between North and South, as it was made from one Northern crop, wheat, and one Southern one, cotton. The date, "1889," is inscribed along the rim, as is "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one). They are joined by thirteen stars.

On the reverse, a wreath stretches from under each wing of an eagle. The bird holds arrows and an olive branch, symbols of military preparedness and peace, in its talons. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed between the bird's wings. The coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR," are inscribed along the rim.

Well Preserved MS63
