Why order this 1889 Toned Silver Morgan Dollar?

More 1889 Morgans were struck than any other issue in the series, which means that every collection not only of Morgans but of American coins generally should include at least one. Over 21.7 million were struck on .7734 troy oz planchets of .900 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint. This one is totally unique, though, due to its attractive toning. When you place your order, you will receive the exact one shown on this page.

American Liberty Design by George Morgan

George T. Morgan's Liberty design marked a turning point in American numismatics due to his selection of an American-style model, Anna Willess Williams, for the figure rather than a Greek-style model, as was customary at the time. Shown in left-side profile, Liberty wears a crown of cotton, a Southern crop, and wheat, a Northern one, in a symbol of national unity. She also wears a Phrygian cap, a symbol of freedom, which covers some of her long, curly hair. Rim inscriptions read, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" (From many, one) and "1889." They are joined by thirteen stars.

Rim inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" encircle the reverse design, which consists of an eagle within an open wreath. The eagle clutches arrows, symbols of American willingness to defend her values, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace, in its talons. Its wings spread upward, creating a V-shape within which is an inscription of the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."

Exquisite Uncirculated MS62

Because it bears about an average strike and lacks so much as traces of wear, this coin received a grade of Mint State 62 from Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Given the scarcity of examples of this issue in high mint state, that makes it among the most beautiful yet affordable options for collectors. It displays lovely toning.

Don't miss your chance to own this Silver Morgan 1889 Toned Dollar.
