Why buy this Silver 1889 Morgan Dollar?

The Morgan 1889 Silver Dollar had the highest mintage of any coin in the series, but it is extremely difficult to find in GEM BU condition. That makes this MS64 piece extremely attractive, as it is the best option for collectors on a budget to get a stunning piece from the issue without breaking the bank. The coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint on a .7734 troy oz. planchet of .900 fine silver. Order now to receive the exact coin depicted on this page.

Iconic Liberty Design by George T. Morgan

George T. Morgan made history when he chose an American style model, Anna Willess Williams, as his model for Liberty. The tradition to that point had been to use a Greek-style model. Depicted in left-side profile, the young figure wears a Phrygian cap, a traditional symbol of a freed person, and a crown of cotton and wheat, two staple American crops. Two rim inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the date, "1889," are joined by thirteen stars on the rim.

On the reverse, an eagle spreads its wings upward toward the rim. It holds arrows, symbols of American determination to defend her values, and an olive branch, which indicates a preference for peace, in its talons. The words "IN GOD WE TRUST," the national motto, are inscribed above its head, and a laurel wreath largely encircles it. Rim inscriptions offer the coin's country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and face value, "ONE DOLLAR."

Uncirclated MS64

This coin received a Mint State 64 grade from the experts at Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Coins in MS64 condition have an above average strike, booming mint luster, and no signs of wear.
