Why add the 1888-O Morgan Silver Dollar Top 100 PCGS MS62 VAM-1A Clashed E to your collection?
This 1888-O Morgan Silver Dollar was graded at the solidly collectible Mint State (MS62) grade by Morgan Dollar experts at Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). It features the older VAM-1A Clashed E designation. In 2013 this designation was further classified into three sub-varieties. This coin is a Top 100 and a WOW! Morgan VAM and therefore generates interest from VAM collectors generally and those putting together each of those sets. The coin was struck at the infamous New Orleans Mint, noted for creating some of the most sought after VAMs in existence. It contains .7734 oz of silver struck on a standard .900% planchet.
Standard Morgan Design
The obverse of the coin features Liberty, facing left wearing a tiara inscribed "Liberty". The reverse of the coin features an American bald eagle with spread wings.
MS62 example with coveted VAM-1A Clashed E designation
MS62 coins are uncirculated examples which may have scattered contact marks and some slightly impaired luster. All design details are present. The real attraction here is the VAM-1A Clashed E attribution in a mint state grade. Coins with this attribution have spectacular cracked die evidence--all dependent upon the progression of die deterioration--and a noted "Clashed E" which are the remains of an "E" from Liberty's crown beneath the Eagle's tail feathers.
