Magnificent Patriotic Designs
A portrait of Lady Liberty facing left adorns the obverse, wearing a crown inscribed "LIBERTY" and a Phrygian cap, which is a symbol representing the pursuit of liberty dating back to the Roman Republic era. "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "1888" and thirteen stars frame Liberty's image.
The reverse of the Morgan Dollar illustrates an eagle with an olive branch and three arrows in its grasp. A laurel wreath curves below the eagle, with the Mint mark for New Orleans Mint "O," centered beneath it. The imagery is surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "ONE DOLLAR."
