Why Add This MS63 1888-O Morgan Dollar to Your Collection?
The very first Morgan silver dollars were issued for circulation in 1878. Today these classic coins are widely collected, but they were once part of everyday life. This Morgan dollar was struck at the New Orleans Mint in 1888. Compared to other years of the series, its mintage was moderate. There were 9,744,000 of these struck.
Stunning Liberty Obverse and Bald Eagle Reverse by Morgan
These coins take their name from the artist behind the designs, George T. Morgan. The obverse shows his classic Liberty design. The date is just below Liberty as she looks to the left while wearing a small cap.
The "O" Mint mark of the New Orleans Mint is on the reverse between the wreath and the face value. The wreath in this design partially surrounds a bald eagle. The eagle is holding its wings up high.
