Patriotic Eagle Design by George T. Morgan
Both faces of this coin were designed by George T. Morgan. Obverse: The obverse features an American-style Liberty in left-side profile. She dons a Phrygian cap, as well as a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name and a crown of cotton and wheat. Her image is encircled by two rim inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1888," and thirteen stars.
Reverse: An eagle stretches its wings toward the rim as it clutches arrows and an olive branch within an open wreath on the reverse. "IN GOD WE TRUST," the national motto, " is inscribed above its head. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR" encircle the image along the rim.

This coin's grade comes on a green label. Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this piece Mint State 64, thus indicating that it has an average or better strike and lacks any traces of wear. The Green Label indicates that in addition to meeting the stringent requirements for grading and authentication at NGC, before being submitted to grading, the coin also met standards established by RARCOA (Rare Coin Company of America) regarding a coin's strike, luster, and eye appeal. Only examples that meet the exceptional guidelines set by RARCOA will be awarded the Green Label.
