Why order this Morgan 1888 Silver Dollar From the Great Montana Collection?

Part of the Great Montana Collection of George Bouvier, this 1888 Morgan Silver Dollar gives collectors the chance to own a piece of one of the great recently discovered hoards. Part of the tenth anniversary Morgan issue, the coin was struck from .7734 Troy oz. of .900 fine silver at the Philadelphia Mint. Like other issues from Philadelphia, it lacks a Mint mark.

Groundbreaking Liberty Design by George T. Morgan

A left-side profile of Liberty serves as the obverse design. This design is hugely significant in the history of American numismatics because designer George T. Morgan, from whom the coin gets its name, chose an American-style model for Liberty rather than a Greek-style one. She wears Phrygian cap along with a ribbon that bears her name and a crown made from cotton and wheat.

An eagle clutches arrows and an olive branch on the reverse. A laurel wreath wraps around the bird from just under the two wings. The national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed between the eagle's wings, which are spread upwards.

Uncirculated MS63

This coin received an uncirculated grade of Mint State 63 from Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). That grade is given to coins that have slightly weak to average strikes and moderate hairlines and abrasions.
