Striking Liberty Design by George T. Morgan
Obverse: George T. Morgan's obverse design depicts Liberty in left-side profile. Along with a Phrygian cap and a ribbon that bears an inscription of her name, she dons a crown, which is made from a Southern crop, cotton, and a Northern one, wheat. The image is encircled by two inscriptions, "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "1887," and thirteen stars.
Reverse: Morgan's reverse design shows an eagle holding arrows and an olive branch within an open wreath. The bird's outstretched wings reach toward the rim, and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," is inscribed between them. The name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," and the face value of the coin, "ONE DOLLAR," are inscribed along the rim.
